Art Enhancing Life – Community – Programme 4
‘Home is where the heart is’ – Liz Blades
Over the course of five weeks Artist Liz Blades explored a theme of stories through a combination of art mediums such as paint, print, sewing, and decoupage. A small cardboard box in the shape of a basic house was decorated as it represented ‘home’. A fabric heart was then made, embellished and sewn together to go inside this house, as it represented who the participant is adored by.
It was a perfectly crafted delivery in week 1, with demos of paint techniques, drawings and paintings used as decoupage designs, to adorn the finished house and encourage the exploration of the new art form introduced by Liz Blades. With illustrated hand outs, example images laid out for inspiration that sparked the creative in every one as they embarked on this creative journey ‘home’.
Once participants had built their houses, the decoupaging process began with a demo tutorial sometimes on a one to one basis if participants were at different stages. This session proved to be good for participants who were not too confident with sewing to practice some stitches.
It was clear that these sessions were enjoyed by all, especially because each participant has a story to tell and through these stories it becomes evident where or who represent home for them. It is often a feeling that sparks memories of security, Love and happiness, and in turn Creativity.
