Kathryn Borg has been our lead artist this year on our STEAM project, working with both Dale Community Primary School and Zaytouna Primary School. Both schools have been exploring science, technology, engineering and mathematics through art. Kathryn Borg has almost completed all the workshops with the first group from Zaytouna Primary School. They have been creating both ceramic and paper mache planets for an installation to cover one of their corridor areas themed around space. Kathryn has also just started working with the second group of children at Dale school. The Dale Primary children have been experimenting with paper mache, tree rubbings and painting to create the bark of their tree installation based around recycling and the environment.
The children from Dale school also had a fantastic time this month when they visited Artcore Albert Street gallery. Not only did they get to explore and see the Micro Graduate Residency, but they also were able to see the works of Kathryn Borg and interview her about her work. They particularly enjoyed Thomas Wynne’s interactive Apollo 11 work, as he used CCTV and an ex-BBC monitor as an art form. All the children enjoyed seeing their friend’s feet on the monitor screen.
