On Saturday 19th July 2014, Artcore in partnership with sustainable transport charity Sustrans, delivered a joint community project within the local Normanton area. The project is aimed at young children residing within the area and looked at issues surrounding road safety, traffic and noise pollution around the Normanton road. Artcore provided arts based workshops within Hardwick and Arboretum primary schools to explore these issues, encouraging the children aged from 6-11, to create pictures, slogans and messages to help promote road safety within the area.

There was a selection process through which certain pictures were then used to create large scale stencils that were temporarily sprayed on the roads and pavement of the Normanton area. As part of this event, the road was closed and a host of exciting activities were held to promote the project, including road safety themed face painting, Henna and cycle powered music speakers. All of the children’s work was exhibited and family, friends and teachers were all invited to attend the event, take part and help spray the chosen stencils on the roads and pavements to help promote road safety, alternative methods of transport and to brighten the surrounding area.
