Saturday 13th July saw hundreds of children, families and young people gather in Derby’s market square to celebrate our city and their achievements through the This Is Derby Project. All year our young people have taken part in sports and art activities and projects in community hubs and schools. From the Jungle Book performance with Derby Theatre earlier in the year to our Street Art festival with Baby People, weekly workshops to the Sgt. Pepper Project, we celebrated it all along with our partners with amazing performances from Baby People, EMCCAN, Deda, Derby Theatre and many more.
Our young people splashed colour through our streets, waving their hand-made silk flags high in a parade from the Spot to Market Square to kick off the celebration. They walked along with other children from across the city involved in the project all showing just what Derby has to offer. In market square we hosted an exhibition showcasing the amazing work by Derby’s young people from Arboretum and Normanton. The whole day was an amazing success and a testament of what can happen when a city comes together.
