“Games People Play” – Launch event @ Deda, Derby

/ / Art in Modern Culture, Exhibitions, Games People Play

The project was organized by Artcore, and funded by the Arts Council, Derby City Council, Igniting Ambition, Creative Innovation and European Regional Developmental Fund.

Games People Play is an arts project which celebrates sports and culture through the medium of Art.

The rationale for the “Games People Play” exhibition is based on the many interpretations of the ideas surrounding celebration, achievement, human endurance and survival, as well as those of deception, exploitation and political leverage.

Many of the artworks celebrate sports and the values they stand for – to better records, to play fair, to have pride in one’s country. At the same time, a number of artists are using their artworks to celebrate cultural diversity, the importance of compassion and tolerance, the need for respecting nature, and saying ‘no’ to violence. The project offers a platform to budding artists and encourages young people to be active creatively.

This Exhibition is curated by Sandhya Bordewekar Gajjar, Saira Lloyd and Paul Matosic.
